Notice the color difference in Kimmy between the photo above and the photo to the right. Above, is an example of a red grizzle in a stripped coat. To the right is an example of the same dog in a clipped coat. When clipped, the coarse, wirey hair (top coat) is often replaced by a softer, curlier hair (undercoat). The color also tends to fade as the undercoat overwhelms the top coat. To maintain texture and color, Lakelands need to be hand stripped (the hairs are pulled out instead of clipped)

Chance's lighter coloring is due to recently being stripped and most of the top coat being pulled out. A few weeks later, the photo above was taken.

The story behind the names....

My daughter, Jackie, enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp at about the same time as Kimmy was bred. While in bootcamp, I promised her that she could name the puppies after her platoon.

The puppies were born two days earlier than expected - on Jackie's birthday! Jackie was thrilled to name them as follows:

Oliver: Jackie's nickname while in bootcamp - she was tall, thin with very short hair and reminded her drill instructor of Oliver Twist, the orphan.

Oscar: Jackie's platoon was the Oscar Company.

Bach: The last name of the honor guard for her platoon.

Jessie: Named after a close bootcamp friend.

Dana: Named after the drill instructor, who could sing the most beautiful cadences!

Puppy buyers may choose new names for their puppies! These names are used for identification purposes as they grow at home and is just preferred over saying the red boy, the red grizzle girl, etc.
